Musical
education in Prijedor began in 1955 within "elementary music
school". 85 pupils enrolled the first generation: 73 attending
the department of piano and 13 the department of violin.
The school was opened during the period of strong development of
iron mine in Ljubija, when mining technology staff, particularly
from Czechoslovakia, was arriving to Prijedor, with their families.
New
inhabitants of Prijedor got interested in what this city was offering
to children apart from the regular education.
"Then, in joke, I said to an engineer - we have a music school".
"He came to work in Prijedor", remembers that period
Milan Vrhovac, although the school itself hadn't begun with its
activities.
The initiators of music school foundation were: Milan Vrhovac,
Savo Balaban, Mehmedalija Radaslic and Srecko Katavic.
The regular teaching initiated on October 3rd 1955. In the years
that followed the number of pupils enrolled was increasing, as
well as teachers and musical instruments.
In 1959 the school changes its title into "The school for
musical education" and in 1994 the school expands its activities
on secondary musical education as well.
Nowadays school is called "SECONDARY AND ELEMENTARY MUSIC
SCHOOL" PRIJEDOR.
In school year 2001/2002 there have been 329 pupils enrolled,
in preliminary classes as well as in various departments such
as piano, guitar, accordion, violine, flute, clarinet and trumpet.
The secondary school is attended by 60 pupils in departments of
theory, piano, accordion, strings and department of guitar.
In addition to listed departments since the school year 2001/2002
there has been introduced a preliminary department of voice.
The instruction in the music school is performed by 20 full-time
lecturers and 16 associates. The school is attended by children
from different nationalities. The instruction is performed by
5 teachers of non-serb nationality, and 3 other teachers from
the mixed marriages.
The school today is the carrier of cultural events in the community,
where through programmes of its pupils, presents concerts of various
guest artist as well.
With their musical performance the pupils supplement the art exhibitions,
literary evenings, book presentations and other various events
in organization of the municipality.
The music school regularly takes part in state competitions. By
the number of prizes taken we are holding the second position
( right behind the music school from Banjaluka) from 12 school
existing in Republic of Srpska.
From 4 generations of our graduates there are 14 of them who today
are attending the academies of music.
In the school there is a choir of pupils of elementary school
called "small choir", mixed orchestra, and choir of
pupils attending the secondary school and great number of chamber
music ensembles.
The today's building of music school was built in the middle of
19th century. Since it wasn't built for purpores it's being used
today, classrooms for performing individual instruction were adapted
by using partition walls. Ceilings are leaned on the wooden beams,
which bound to crush due to aging.
The basics of musical activities are the hall for rehearsal and
concerts. The internal classes of our pupils are attended by minimum
50 listeners.
The shortage of working space and wish for providing quality instruction
and performance opportunities led the employees of this educational
institution to go into a realization of construction of a concert
hall with a renewal of the present building as well.
The proposal of the project is the work of the firm "POLIS"
( project, equipping and supervising during the realization of
the project) from Banjaluka, made by Mrs Miomirka Dragomirovic
- Trbic, Dipl. Arch.
What
do the school and the community gain by construction of a concert
hall?
The concert activity in Prijedor barely exists, because of lack
of proper space and equipment for it.
Annualy sometimes there is only 1 concert to be presented. By
constructing the hall of concert type the conditions for realization
of more frequent musical performances would be created, which
would general cultural activity of our community elevate on a
more appropriate level. Besides the common and wider interest
for the community of Prijedor, it represents a great need for
regular rehearsal and concerts of the music school itself.
The hall is imagined as annexe to the existiting structure. It
would be used, besides the concerts activities, for the scopes
of various culturul activities in the community ( book presentation,
art exhibitions, literary evenings, meetings).
New building would also content a large number of classrooms for
individual instruction, by which the working space for music teaching
would be enlarged.
Today, this space is a bit larger than 1sqm per pupil. Within
the project of construction of the new building, the renewal of
the existing building would be performed also by which its bigger
functionality would be reached.
Therefore,
in this occasion we invite all the music lovers and friends of
the Musical School in Prijedor, able to materially support the
construction of the CONCERT HALL to contact the school management.
By your contribution you will make possible the creation of better
conditions for the work of the music school itself, and elevation
of general musical culture in the municipality of Prijedor as
well.
